William Aikman (1868–1959)
Stained glass artist. William Aikman was born in Edinburgh and was an apprentice with Ballantine and Son. He moved to London in 1892 and designed windows for James Powell & Sons, working on commissions with William Richmond and J.W. Brown. Aikman left Powell's to set up his own studio in 1913. He taught at Camberwell School of Art after the First World War. William Aikman was a founder member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters in 1921, serving on its council.
