Heaton, Butler & Bayne (1852-1953)

Stained glass firm founded in 1852 by Clement Heaton (1824-82), who was influenced by Pugin. Heaton's research into pigments resulted in an extended range of colours. Prior to establishing his own firm in London, he had previously worked for William Holland. James Butler (1830-1913) became a partner in 1855, and in 1862 Robert Bayne (1837-1915), who had designed for Clayton & Bell, entered the partnership. The firm continued to be run by their sons until 1953.
