Burlison & Grylls (1868-1953)

The firm of Burlison and Grylls was founded in 1868 at the instigation of the architects G. F. Bodley and Thomas Garner. Both John Burlison (1843-91) and Thomas Grylls (1845-1913) had trained in the studios of Clayton & Bell, and by the 1890s Burlison & Grylls were among the most successful stained glass firms in England. Thomas Grylls' son, Thomas Henry Grylls (1873-1953),was a founding Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters, and oversaw the survival of the firm into the post-war period. The firm closed after his death.
