Maud Francis Eyston Sumner (1902–1985)

Painter born to British immigrants in South Africa. She moved to study in London and then Oxford, before moving to live and work in Paris. She subsequently spent spells back in London and then South Africa during the war, but maintained studios in all three countries. She painted landscapes, still life, and also religious subjects from the 1950s. She also made and designed stained glass.
