Wooden work piece.

medium: wood
technique: carved, painted
size: 40 cm (height) [approx]
artist (attributed to): Eric Gill

Caldey Abbey, Caldey Island
Abbey common room

The carving closely resembles an Orthodox icon. As Gill's friend Dom Theodore Baily, a monk of Caldey, was himself much influenced in his work by Orthodox iconography, it is possible that this carving is by his hand, and not Gill's.
