Robert Alwyn Hughes (1935-)

Born at Dowlais Top, near Merthyr Tydfil and trained in the 1950s, first at Newport College of Art, then Leicester and the Royal College of Art. Exhibited widely across the UK until 1979, when he spent ten years working on commercial films and commercials. He taught at Cheltenham College of Art from 1962 until 1991, and at this time returned to painting as a full time occupation.
