Notes by the artist:
Six Angels were made in response to the Chapter House Abbey Ruins at Margam Park, Bridgend, South Wales, as part of an Sculpture Cymru initiative in 2004. During this time I was living in the tiny village of Little Newcastle and creating abstract sculpture based on the movement of molten aluminum, exploring ways to move toward figurative work. I was inspired by the strikingly elegant figures in the windows of this church and was researching into the ruin which I understand the poor working class people of the area were invited to worship in this section of the Abbey. I wanted these Angels made from salvaged and recycled aluminium to acknowledge the working class people and to portray a simple elegance.
Two sold, three were stolen and one remains with me.
