The Last Supper

The items on the table are also depictions from the various historical periods and the scene is set in the Chamber of the House of Lords.The portraits, round the table from Christ's right hand, are Elizabeth II, George VI, George V, William IV, Henry II (depicted as Judas), Edgar the Peaceable, Athelstan, Alfred the Great, Edward the Confessor, Henry VI, Edward VII, and Elizabeth 1. medium: oil on canvas technique: painting size: 157.5 x 122 cm artist: Moira Doggett Copyright: Moira Doggett Bangor University Collection, Bangor, Gwynedd Painted in London and bought by the Welsh Arts Council. It was previously hung in the Arts Centre in Cwmbran. The monarchs were chosen as those whose virtues the artist believed to have outweighed their weaknesses. Henry II represents Judas, as he was responsible for the the murder of Thomas Becket. |
