detail from Christ with the Four Evangelists
Photo © Martin Crampin | about 1853 Five-light window with standing figures, their symbols in roundels below. Groups of small figures are found at the top of the main lights with biblical scenes in the tracery lights depicting healing scenes, Pentecost and John the Baptist preaching. The small figures are, from left to right: Abraham with Isaac and Jacob; Isaiah with Daniel and Jeremiah; Moses with Peter and Paul; David with Solomon and Saul; Joshua with Deborah and Barak.technique: stained glass firm/studio: Forrest & Bromley Church of the Holy Trinity, Leighton, Powys east wall of the chancel The choice of some of the Old Testament figures is quite unusual. They are labelled to assist identification, except for the central figures of Moses, Peter and Paul, whose iconography was obviously thought to have been sufficient. A number are repeated in the west window. |
