1949
Three-light window between two two-light windows. At the centre, the risen Christ with wounds stands in front of the cross with arms raised, angels at either side, over standing figure of Jude between pairs of male and female figures. In the side windows are standing figures representing virtues: Reward and Fidelity (left) and Sacrifice and Courage (right), and, on each side, four scenes. Those on the left are representative of the war effort at home: the Women's Land Army, the fire service, shipping and mining, and on the right the armed forces, including a scene showing nursing. Eucharistic symbolism, stars and crowns in the tracery above, and various insignia below.

technique: stained glass

firm/studio: Celtic Studios

Church of St Jude, Swansea
west wall of the nave

Signed with the mark that became the usual signature of the firm, the Celtic cross over water.

Dedication beneath central window: 'In memory of Canon Watkin Davies beloved first vicar of this parish.' Dedication beneath the left window: 'In thanksgiving to God for victory and preservation in the World War 1939-45.' Dedication beneath the right window: 'In loving memory of Cecil Maud Callard.'

A complex and ambitious early work by Celtic Studios, interesting for its scenes of the war effort on the home front.
