The Good Shepherd with St Paul and St Elizabeth of Hungary
Photo © Martin Crampin | about 1927 Three-light window with standing figures.technique: stained glass size: 35 cm (width of each light) Church of St Bridget, St Brides Major, Bridgend north wall of the nave Given in memory of Revd Thomas Jones (vicar of the parish 1863-1897) and his wife Elizabeth, by their sons. The window can probably be attributed to Charles Powell. A window at St Brides is included among those by Christopher Charles Powell listed in the British Society of Master Glass Painters Directories of 1939 and 1952, although it is for a two-light north aisle window. There are numerous inaccuracies in the listing of his windows, and C.C. Powell also lists work that perhaps should be attributed to his father's studio, which is not unreasonable given that he probably worked on his father's commissions and no doubt saw his studio as a continuation of his father's. |
