St Peter
from Apostles
Photo © Martin Crampin | 1851 Set of three single-light windows with standing figures of James, Peter and John.technique: stained glass size: 34 cm (width of each light) firm/studio: John Hardman & Co. Church of St Michael and All Angels, Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire north wall of the north aisle A date of 1892 is given in The Buildings of Wales: Pembrokeshire and the windows are attributed to Joseph Bell & Son. This seems very late for the style of these windows, which is closer to the middle of the nineteenth century. Much of the paint on the faces, hands and names has been lost. The same volume also states 'Hardman made two windows in 1850 and three in 1851. Only the s transept s 1850 survives.' It is more plausible that these three windows are in fact those by Hardman from 1851. The style, and a similar paint loss, is similar to that found on contemporary windows by the firm at Pantasaph. |
