detail from Scenes from the Gospels
Photo © Martin Crampin | 1877 Three-light window. The left-hand light shows Christ's commission to Peter with two other disciples in the background and the central light shows Christ walking on the water saving Peter from drowning, with disciples behind in the boat. The right-hand light depicts Christ blessing children with a male and female figure at each side. Angels in the upper lights.technique: stained glass size: 55 cm (width of each light) [approx] artist: Henry Hughes Church of St Tysilio and St Mary, Meifod, Powys west wall of the south aisle Signed 1877 H. Hughes. As the window not signed with the name of the firm with which Henry Hughes is associated, perhaps this is an example of the independent work he continued to do even after forming a successful partnership with Thomas Ward in 1857. In memory of Henry Hayhurst (1806-1875), his eldest son Henry Hugh Atherton (1847-1869) and his fourth daughter (died 1857 aged three months). |
