Reaping
detail from One Sows and Another Reaps
Photo © Martin Crampin | 1982 Two-light window. Christ stands, teaching two of his disciples with a building in the background. Scenes below of sowing seed (with horses) and a man reaping with a sickle.technique: stained glass firm/studio: Celtic Studios Church of St Llyr, Llanyre, Powys north wall of the nave Signed and dated by the firm. Dedication: 'To the glory of God and in loving memory of Arthur Thompson 1890-1962 and the late Thompson family of Glanithon Farm. Given by his wife Gwenith and children 1982'. Although titled with the text from John 4:37, the main scene is perhaps a depiction of Christ sending his disciples out to preach, rather than illustrating Christ's words in the context of the narrative after his encounter with the woman of Samaria. One of the disciples holds a cross, suggesting that perhaps this is a post-Resurrection scene, however Christ is not depicted with the wounds of crucifixion. Whatever the intended biblical meaning of the scene, the attraction of the text for a memorial to a farming family is clear. |
