St Andrew with Allert Andriesz Boelen
Photo © Martin Crampin | probably 1520s Kneeling figure at prayer, with St Andrew shown behind.technique: stained glass Church of St Gwenllwyfo, Dulas, Anglesey south wall of the nave The donor was the son of Andries Boelen of Amsterdam and Marie Jan Bethsdr, and their combined arms can be seen in the upper right spandrel. The panel is thought to have come from their family chapel in the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam (information from Roos Verkleij). The scene was probably fairly generic, but a similar panel with Andrew and an unknown donor can also be found at the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore. |
