The Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and St John
Photo © Martin Crampin, Imaging the Bible in Wales | perhaps 1870s Three-light window depicting the Crucifixion with standing figures of Mary and John at either side. Angels below and in a sexfoil above, between the alpha and omega.technique: stained glass Church of St Peter and St Meugan, Ruthin, Denbighshire west wall of the south nave The window has some similarities with the work of Heaton, Butler & Bayne. The central figure of Christ is not commensurate with the quality of the outer lights, and is probably a later replacement. Text: 'I am the Resurrection and the Life' (John 11:25). Given in memory of John Spier Hughes (died 1868) by his widow. The window looks more like stained glass of the 1870s than of around 1868. |
