It was commissioned as a memorial to a young person in the congregation. Signed Jonah Jones vii/76. The correspondence recorded the impatience of the family over the time being taken for the faculty to be given, and they nearly diverted the money to a children's home. The figure was finally executed in 1979, while the artist fulfilled other commitments. However, the crucifix was moved in about 1982 to All Saints, Llanelli, after the family that commissioned it moved to the town. Another very similar crucifix was then commissioned from the artist for the nearby Church of St Alban, Llanelli, made in 1983. Further information about the work was kindly provided by Peter Jones of the Jonah Jones estate. The Church of St Seiriol, Anglesey, which also boasted glass by Hugh Easton, subsequently closed in 1989 and was demolished in 1992. |
