The Virgin Mary Teaching Christ to Read with St Anne
Photo © Martin Crampin, Imaging the Bible in Wales | about 1952 Two-light window.technique: stained glass firm/studio: J. Drake & Sons Church of the Holy Trinity, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire Given in memory of Hettie Helen Davies and Anne Elizabeth Hatherly by their brother, John Lloyd Davies. This is the first window in Wales to be attributed to the Exeter firm of Drake & Sons, and the faculty for the window records the maker as J. Drake & Sons, Exeter. Information on the later history of the firm is not widely known, and the reference to J. Drake (as opposed to the founder Frederick or his sons Maurice and Wilfred) may refer to one of their children or be a mistake. This late work by the firm is similar in execution to the work of the longer lasting Exeter stained glass studio, Wippell's. |
