Photo © Martin Crampin, Imaging the Bible in Wales | 1916 Three-light window. Christ with Mary and John and kneeling bishops, one of whom (right-hand light) has the model of a church by his side, while the other has the arms of St Davids. Angels hold the instruments of the Passion above, while figures hold Old Testament texts below.technique: stained glass firm/studio: C.E. Kempe & Co Ltd Church of St David and St Cyfelach, Llangyfelach, Swansea east wall of the chancel Old Testament texts: 'Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow' (Lamentations 1:12) 'Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows' (Isaiah 53:4) and 'What are these wounds in thine hands?' (Zechariah 13:6). This identifies the figures below, partly hidden by the reredos, as the authors of these texts. The Kempe Corpus confirms one of the bishops as David, and names the other as Asaph. |
