from Crucifixion with Mary, John and Mary Magdalene
1886 Three-light window showing the Crucifixion with Mary, John and Mary Magdalene; three angels in the lower panels.technique: stained glass size: 180 cm (width) [approx] firm/studio: Shrigley & Hunt designer: Carl Almquist Church of St Bledrws, Betws Bledrws, Ceredigion east wall of the chancel Angel in the central lower panel holds the text: 'Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches & wisdom, and strength & honour & glory & blessing'. Given in memory of John Inglis-Jones of Derry Ormond, by his wife Lady Elizabeth, 1886. (Inglis-Jones had died in 1869, aged 40). The glass displaced the east window of 1854 by Ward & Hughes, which was moved to a church nearby at Llangybi. Note Pre-Raphaelite style of foliage background. The figures of Mary and John are particularly well drawn. |
