Angel
detail from The Risen Christ
probably 1980s, with inserts from around 1900 Single-light window.technique: stained glass size: 46 cm (width of each light) artist: Christopher Whall firm/studio: probably J. Wippell & Co. Ltd Church of St David, Groes-faen, Rhondda Cynon Taff south wall of the nave The two child angels in the lower part of the window have been identified as the work of Christopher Whall by Peter Cormack. The window was given in memory of Alan Boultbee Aitken (1899–1982), and these angels appear to have been given by the artist to his brother and sister-in-law, Captain and Mrs Boultbee Whall, who retired to South Wales. They were clearly given to the maker of the window, who incorporated them into the design. With thanks to Peter Cormack for this information. |
