1979 Painted reredos depicting the Risen Christ with Nativity and Pietà. technique: painting size: 180 cm (width) [approx] artist: V. P. Jones Church of St Mary, Newport, Pembrokeshire east end of the south aisle Bought from the local artist V. P. Jones in 1979. Centre: Christ in Majesty seated over the world, with (left) a Nativity scene, unusually with a smiling Joseph, his arm lovingly around the shoulders of the Virgin Mary; and (right) a Pietà - Mary cradling the body of her dead son. Note the presence in the composition of the three crosses of Calvary, and a skull; and also of the lily inclining towards the Nativity scene, and the thorns inclining towards the Pieta.
