Christ the Good Shepherd with Scenes of Healing

about 1866
Three-light window. Christ is shown with sheep, as the Good Shepherd, in the central light. Christ is shown blessing a man with a crutch by the water's edge to the left, and touching the eyes of a man to the right. Decorative glass above and filling the tracery lights above.

technique: stained glass

firm/studio: Alexander Gibbs

Church of St Mary, Minera, Wrexham
north transept

The window was given by shareholders of the Minera mining company in memory of their chairman Alexander Reid. He died at Llantysilio Hall 28 February 1866.

It is not entirely clear which healing scenes from the gospels are depicted here. The lame man lying by the water's edge may be the man that Christ heals at the pool of Bethesda, who was unable to get into the water (John 5:5–9). The man on the right could be Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46), but in two other passages Christ touches the blind man's eyes: at Bethsaida (Mark 8:22–5), and before the blind man is told to wash in the pool at Siloam (John 9:6–7).
