Church (Anglican)
The church was a twelfth century Benedictine foundation, and the present nave dates from the fourteenth century. St Mary's Priory church found fame as a site of pilgrimage in the thirteenth century, as the shrine of Our Lady of the Taper. This tradition was broken at the Reformation, but the shrine was re-established in the town by the Roman Catholic Church.
