Margaret Agnes Rope (1882-1953)

Stained glass artist and Carmelite nun. Margaret Agnes Rope trained at Birmingham School of Art, and was taught by Henry Payne. She initially worked from her family home in Shrewsbury, but in 1911 went with her cousin, Margaret Edith Aldrich Rope (1891-1988), to work at the Glass House in Fulham. In 1923 she entered the Carmelite monastery in Woodbridge, Suffolk, as Sister Margaret of the Mother of God. She was encouraged to work as an artist, and continued to work in stained glass, her windows being sent to the Glass House for firing and assembly.
