about 1964
Complex two-light window with figure of Christ and disciples at the top of the window, and texts and scenes below.

technique: stained glass
size: 38 cm (width of each light)
artist: Hugh Powell

Church of St Arvan, St Arvans, Monmouthshire
north wall of the north aisle

Signed by the artist.

Text: 'Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed into the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old' (Matthew 13:52).

Given in memory of Commander Anthony Cotton Powell (1894-1964). The window was the concept of his wife, and the artist was his cousin. The book and scribe, and the unusual text from Matthew, allude to his literary activities. The parables alluded to in the imagery are the sower and the pearl of great price.
