about 1865 Two-light window. The scene in the left-hand light shows three figures with a seated king, probably representing Solomon (with a text from Proverbs). A boy is shown being taught by a woman in the right-hand light, and probably represents Timothy, perhaps being taught by his mother Eunice his grandmother Lois. Angels below hold scrolls. Upper roundel with a further angel. technique: stained glass firm/studio: William Wailes Church of St Issell, St Issells, Pembrokeshire east wall of the north aisle Texts: (left-hand light) 'Get wisdom get understanding: forget it not' (Proverbs 4:5); (right-hand light) 'From a child thou hast known the holy scriptures' (2 Timothy 3:15). Beneath the angels: 'I shall go to him but he shall not return to me' (2 Samuel 12:23), while the angels hold the texts 'Even so Father for so it seemed good in thy sight' (Matthew 11:26 & Luke 10:21), and 'Them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him' (1 Thessalonians 4:14). Given in memory of Edward Rigby Stephenson, born in the parish, but died near Adelaide, South Australia, in 1865. A window incorporating a broad range of short texts from the Old and New Testaments relating to learning and knowledge of the scriptures, as well as the loss of a boy of seventeen in a country far away.  (ObjectID=4646 ImageID=8771) Original File Name=StIssells_DSC7775A.jpg
