Two-light window. The figure of Christ stands in the left-hand light, his hand stretching out to a figure in the right-hand light. Further figures below and cross in the upper roundel.

technique: stained glass
size: 45 cm (width of each light) [approx]
artist: Lawrence Lee

Church of St David, Betws, Carmarthenshire
east wall of the chancel

Signed and dated by the artist.

The meaning of the window becomes clear as an interpretation of the famous hymn adapted from the original in Welsh by William Williams:

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.

Christ the great Jehovah (or Redeemer), stretches out his powerful hand to the pilgrim. The figures below are seen navigating a 'barren land', and the one on the left by a torrent of water, is perhaps on 'the verge of Jordan' (verse 3), or by the 'healing stream' that flows from the 'crystal fountain' (verse 2).
