about 1965
Two-light window with standing figures of both saints.

technique: stained glass

firm/studio: Powell & Sons (Whitefriars) Ltd

Church of St Mary, Strata Florida
north wall of the nave

The name at the foot of the window reads 'Syr David John James LLD 1888-1967'.

The death date suggests that the window was made no earlier than 1967, although, according to Dennis Hadley's transcription of the Powell's archive, all of the windows were commissioned, and perhaps made, between 1961 and 1964. The listing of the firm's work in the British Society of Master Glass Painters Directory of 1966 also lists three two-light windows, dated 1961–5. It seems that the window was in fact commissioned prior to the death of David James, and the dedication added subsequently. There are other precedents for windows being commissioned by donors prior to their own death.
