Bought by Lord Aberdare in 1886 at auction, under the title 'The Marriage at Cana after P. Veronese' for £2. 10s and given the National Museum in 1919.
The original by Paolo Veronese is a huge canvas of 1573, now in the Gallerie della Accademia, in Venice.
