Instruments of the Passion and the Veronica

about 1920-1928 Roundel with the instruments of the Passion, with a losenge containing the Veronica. technique: stained glass size: 25 cm (width of each panel) [approx] artist: Theodore Baily Caldey Abbey, Caldey Island cloister Baily has here selected two of the Instruments of the Passion, both associated with the nails that held Christ to the cross. The image of the Veronica seems to be derived from a nineteenth century print, distributed widely by the Confraternity of the Holy Face, established at Tours in 1850. It also bears some resemblance to the face on the Turin Shroud, though the familiar photograph of this dates from 1931, after this window was made.  (ObjectID=576 ImageID=1262) Original File Name=_MG_2520.jpg
